Laserboids update V1.2


Another update for Laserboids has just been released!

Features:

-Added a new enemy type: Sparrow. Unlike the laser boids, this creature will fly straight towards the player at extreme speed. It is larger and tankier, taking three hits to destroy. As time goes on, their attacks will become more and more frequent so watch out! However, if you are bold enough to stand your ground, taking one out will give a nice bonus of 50 points for your trouble.

Bugfixes/Changes:
-Combo text no longer disappears when a new enemy is destroyed, and will remain visible for its full animation.

-You can now hit any key on your keyboard to restart the game after losing.


Intent:

The Sparrow was added because the game felt a bit boring. Boids, while interesting to dodge, are not enough to carry a whole gameplay loop alone. I wanted to break up the slower, flowing motion of the flock by adding an enemy that would make a beeline for the player and force them to devote their attention to handling it for a second or two.  This breaks up the gameplay and introduces the opportunity for the player to make a mistake while either teleporting away from the sparrow for focusing their fire on it too much. Hopefully, players will find the game more interesting for it.


Thanks for playing everyone, it's been fun working on this project. For now I feel like I'm satisfied with it, but still may return later.
